Woman choked: An Irondale man was booked into the county jail after he allegedly kicked his ex-girlfriend’s door in, trashed her home and tried to choke her, Friday. Michael Eugene Shriver, 33, 3242 county Road 58, Irondale was charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault, deputies said. His ex said he wanted to pick up a few things he’d left at her residence in Richmond after their breakup, but she knew he’d been drinking and said no. He came anyway and forced his way in, throwing her furniture around, kicking and beating her. He punched her TV, shattering it. Deputies said she had a large bruise by her eye, scratches and bruises on her arms and strangulation marks around her neck. Shriver was located on county Road 54, in Salem Township, and denied assaulting her though deputies said he admitted being at his ex’s home earlier in the day. They said he “smelled strongly” of alcohol.
Paying the price: A Mount Pleasant woman told deputies she thought her son had overdosed in her bathroom, but he woke up and fled the residence for a time only to return, Saturday. Deputies checked on him anyway, and said he’d started arguing with his mother. He refused medical attention and said he was willing to leave for the evening and before leaving with friends who came to pick him up, he grabbed a Naloxone from a box. His mother said when he’s high he “threatens her and destroys property.”
Volatile: Deputies were dispatched to a Wintersville residence after a man reported a 13-year-old was assaulting his aged mother, Sunday. The older woman said the teen was upset because she yelled at her for using the dish cleaning brush to clean an animal’s cage and to quit running the water because “it costs money” and the child responded by yelling profanities at her and pushing her out of the kitchen. The teen said she was cleaning as she’d been instructed to do when the older woman walked in and began arguing with her. She said she tried to ignore her but couldn’t and said the older woman grabbed her and tried to hit her, so she took swings at her, but none connected. She said the older woman grabbed her wrist and broke a wristband she had on her arm, so she went into her bedroom and shut the door. A friend, questioned separately, corroborated her account. The older woman said she can’t care for her “because she is out of control.”
Scammed: A Mount Pleasant Township septuagenarian told deputies she was conned out of nearly $13,000, Saturday. She said her iPad wasn’t working right so she Googled a number for support. A man who said his name was “Ryan” asked her for information, including a picture of her driver’s license, her Social Security number and date of birth. He then had her withdraw $9,700 from her bank account and deposit it in a Bitcoin machine in Triadelphia, ostensibly to secure her accounts, then instructed her to buy five $485 gift cards. She bought one and gave him the number, then realized she was being scammed. She realized she’d been hacked when her Paypal account showed a $2,457 charge she hadn’t made. Deputies tried calling the number she’d used several times but finally got a recording that “this number is not in use, thank you for calling.”
Pals: A Rayland man said his “good buddy” assaulted him at a bar in Goulds, Sunday. He didn’t want to pursue charges but did want the incident on the record.
Speeding: A Kentucky man was cited for speeding after deputies said they clocked him on state Route 7 going 71 in the 55 mph zone, Saturday. Steven G. Ware, Louisville, told deputies he was headed to the World’s Largest Teapot in Chester for a face-to-face meeting with a female he’d met online.
Lucky catch: A Rayland woman who checked her husband’s credit report discovered two fraudulent charges had been made in his name, Saturday. She said charges of $1,620 for a mobile phone account and another for nearly $234, both made using his identifying information. She said someone in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., used her husband’s information to get a cell phone.
Pawned: A Bloomingdale man said he returned home after a few days away to find his Edison Brand Professional Karaoke speakers missing from his home, Saturday. He valued the speakers at $2,100 and said a friend told him a Mingo Junction man had stolen them and that he’d pawned them at Cash America. Deputies confirmed the speakers had been pawned and put a hold on them. The pawn shop wants its $100 back and the victim said he’s being threatened by the Mingo Junction man.
Foiled: A Wintersville man said someone broke into his building in Bergholz, Sunday. He said the locks were cut off and the electrical panel ripped off, but nothing appeared to be missing, possibly because the alarm scared them off.
Unit entered: A Toronto man said someone broke into his storage unit on state Route 213, Friday. He said he noticed the lock broken off and his Diamond Mission 2 bicycle, an Xbox One and a 60-inch television were missing. He said the items were worth about $6,000.
Booked: Jennifer Susan Wade, 46, 153 Aberdeen Road, Steubenville, warrant out of county Court 2 for theft, Saturday.
