Shocking moment police car is rammed off the road by truck

Jun 02, 2024

THIS is the shocking moment a police car is rammed off the road by a truck-driving thug in a horror smash.

Nathan Ferguson had run a set of red lights before rear-ending a sergeant's vehicle as they attempted to force him to stop.

The yob was engaged in a 68mph chase before shunting the officer into the embankment on a stretch of the A19 in Northumberland on February 16.

A clip of the nerve-wracking chase was uploaded to Twitter by investigators, showing Ferguson's truck hurtling along the road.

He is being chased by two police cars, one marked and one unmarked, while a third, driven by Sergeant Dave Roberts, cruises ahead to block his path.

The idea is to box the truck in and bring it to a controlled halt.

However, Ferguson has other ideas and swerves in an attempt to get around Sergeant Roberts.

During one of these attempts, Ferguson's front right tyre makes contact with the rear left of the police vehicle, sending it into a violent spin.

Dashcam footage from inside Sergeant Robert's car shows it was travelling at 60mph at the time, with his colleagues saying he was "lucky to be alive".

The remaining two cars continue to chase down Ferguson, until he blows through another set of red lights on a blind junction and the clip ends.

Senior officers from Northumbria Police said his actions could have "easily killed members of the public and our officer" and confirmed that Sergeant Roberts had suffered whiplash in the attack.

A spokesperson for the force said: "This is the moment one of our sergeants was sent spinning off the road after being rammed by a dangerous driver.

"Ferguson jumped red lights & caused other motorists to take evasive action on the morning of February 16.

"His dangerous antics prompted a lengthy pursuit - before he shunted a Motor Patrols officer off the road."

Ferguson was arrested and, on July 19, was jailed for dangerous driving and assault causing ABH, among other charges.

Chief Superintendent Neil Hutchison slammed his actions as "among the most dangerous pieces of driving I've seen in 25 years of policing".

The force concluded its statement by thanking those who helped put Ferguson behind bars and praising Sergeant Roberts' "outstanding bravery and dedication to protecting others".

It comes after a woman was killed in a car chase on Sunday, with cops launching a murder investigation into her death.
